150 cows. His dad also had a dairy on Fir Island where Herb was born in 1941, then moved to

the farm on Burmaster Road in Sedro-Woolley in 1944 where Herb and his family started out

dairying, before building a new dairy on Cockerham Island in Lyman, Washington in 1968. Herb,

his wife Judy, and all his 7 children were heavily involved in all youth dairy activities and Breed

Organizations; including dairy judging, quiz bowl, showing, and general dairy youth activities

with 4-H, FFA, Brown Swiss, Jersey, and Holstein Associations. Herb attended many national

Breed organization conventions and national dairy youth contests for FFA and 4-H.

After he quit dairy farming in 2008 he bred all the remaining animals to Angus and kept a small

herd of beef cattle. Herb’s legacy is dairy farming, family, and his lifelong commitment to agriculture.
